What to expect at your first PT session

Some clients get quite nervous or apprehensive about their first PT session, which is totally understandable as starting something new can be quite daunting.

I've put together a few pointers on what to expect, to give my new clients an idea of what happens during their first session with me.

The main point is to understand it is part of a process, and the first few sessions are crucial in getting to know each other and jointly establishing what the starting point of that process is.

So once you are booked in for your first training session you will receive a text from me with all the details of what to bring on the day such as water, and where to come. There will also be some info around Covid.

What happens in your first session

  1. After introductions we will sit down and have an informal chat about your fitness goals. There will be some forms to fill in so that I have all your contact details and also a Physical Activity Readiness Questionnaire to gain an understanding of your current medical conditions (if you have any) and fitness level.

  2. I will collect info on what exercise you've previously done, lifestyle and any exercises likes and dislikes.

  3. You'll be give a client trainer agreement form to take home and read and sign.

  4. We will discuss goals and I'll explain more about how we will achieve those goals through our sessions, dietary advice (including a food diary), general support if needed, and homework.

  5. We will do a general warm up and then the main workout which will assess your current fitness levels including cardio and muscular strength and endurance, movement assessments, posture, range of movement, flexibility, etc - you can expect to perform fundamental exercises such as squat and lunges.

  6. At the end of the session we will sum up and agree on a plan to move forward and help you achieve your health and fitness goals.

If you have any questions about booking a first session with me, please get in touch and I'd be happy to answer them.
